The Air Force offers career opportunities, and each year Air Force ROTC Det 810 commissions second lieutenants for a wide variety of Air Force specialties. These positions are a crucial part of the aerospace mission. Officers provide critical leadership across the five main Air Force missions of air superiority, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), rapid global mobility, and command and control.
AFROTC also now commissions officers into the United States Space Force. Space Force officers primarily focus on the Space Force mission sets of providing space capabilities to the joint force, acquiring military space systems, growing space doctrine and organizing space forces for higher level combatant commanders. The Space Force also needs officers in certain "core specialties" such as intelligence, engineering, communications and others.
The complexity of modern aviation, space technology and communications has generated a critical need for well-trained engineers, scientists and computer scientists. Officers in non-technical positions are needed to support every mission of the Air Force.
In all fields, the Air Force and Space Force assigns young officers to positions of responsibility early in their careers.
