On Tuesday, April 28, 2015, former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman joined Baylor President and Chancellor Ken Starr for On Topic. The two shared the Waco Hall stage discussing various issues of national prominence, including same-sex marriage, community-law enforcement relationships, and Lieberman's book, "The Gift of Rest: Rediscovering the Beauty of the Sabbath."
Senator Joseph "Joe" Lieberman served four terms in the U.S. Senate, from 1989 to 2013, and three terms as chair of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. He was instrumental in the creation of the Department of Homeland Security in 2002, when he was chair of the Senate Government Affairs Committee. Following his retirement from the Senate, Lieberman joined the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington-based think tank, as co-chair of the organization's American Internationalism Project. In 2014, Lieberman was named counselor at the National Bureau of Asian Research. He also serves as the Lieberman Chair of Public Policy and Public Service at Yeshiva University, where he teaches an undergraduate course in political science.
