Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Baylor University faculty and staff are eligible for a Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave if they have been emplyed for at least twelve months and have worked at least 1,250 hours during the prior twelve months.

Subject to the requirements of this policy, an approved paid or unpaid leave will be granted for up to twelve workweeks during any 12-month period for the following reasons:

  • The birth and care of a child;
  • The placement of a child for adoption of foster care in the employee's home;
  • The care of the employee's spouse, child or parent (not in-laws) with a serious health condition;
  • The employee's serious health condition that renders him/her unable to perform the function of his/her job.
