providing full support of Baylor University and Truett Seminary, Running the Race Well (RRW) provides a unique experience within a diverse community utilizing an eight-day mentor-guided retreat setting that engages and forms religious teenagers to become discerning, vibrant leaders in sports, church, and beyond. RRW is a program designed to assist junior and senior high school athletes to: 1) theologically reflect on and morally deliberate about the positive and negative influences within sport and other life experiences; 2) understand and experience how worship and liturgy in church, and spiritual disciplines practiced in sport, can work together to nurture integrity and spiritual leadership; and 3) examine how the convictions and character they are developing can translate to and equip them for service and their future callings in the “race of life.”
Mentors of the Faith and Sport Institute (FSI) are young people passionate about holistic growth and spiritual maturing of adolescents. Mentors spend 10 days in June being trained and participating in the FSI Retreat and then commit 4-5 hours a month for the next 11 months to a continued mentoring relationship with no more than 4 local high school student athletes.
The FSI prides itself in creating a unique retreat experience that helps young athletes live out their faith on the filed of competition and the other arenas of life. Mentors should have an understanding of the larger sports culture and express a Christian faith.
