About Dr. Vang

Dr. Preben Vang came to Truett Seminary in 2014 to lead the Doctor of Ministry program. Before coming to Truett, Dr. Vang served 17 years in administration as Professor and Chair of Biblical and Theological Studies at both Ouachita Baptist University and Palm Beach Atlantic University. Born and raised in Denmark, where his latest call was to pastor the First Baptist Church of Copenhagen, Dr. Vang’s academic interest has always related to the global mission of God’s Kingdom. "When everything is said and done," he says, "I’m really just a pastor who loves books and who enjoys thinking deeply and out loud about the content and significance of the church’s message." Working as an engineer in electronics, Dr. Vang heard God’s call to full-time ministry in his early twenties.

Professionally, Dr. Vang is a member of Society of Biblical Literature (SBL), Institute for Biblical Research (IBR), and Evangelical Theological Society (ETS), where he actively participates. His academic training focused on the theology of Paul, writing his doctoral dissertation on Paul’s relational understanding of the Spirit. Beyond his lingering interest in this area, his focus on the connection between biblical studies, theology and the church’s witness has led to publications in variety of related areas. The content of the book in press at the moment (Weaver Book Company) is given by its title: Making Connections: A Workbook for Finding Your Place in God’s Story. It is designed to help Christian lay-people understand the flow of the biblical narrative.

Always a pastor, either full time, in an interim capacity, or as a church planter, Dr. Vang is convinced that the church is God’s tool to change the world. His appointment at Truett Seminary is an extension of this perspective. He considers the equipping of the church and her leadership the most significant and prominent function of the seminary.

On the private level, Dr. Vang enjoys engaging conversations, hanging out with friends over a good cup of coffee, hiking, and tinkering with cars. The greatest joy in his life is being with his family - not the least his sweet little grandkids.
