Preben Vang joined Baylor’s seminary faculty in 2014 to lead their doctoral studies program. Before coming to Truett, he served 17 years as the Professor and Chair of Biblical and Theological Studies at Ouachita Baptist- and Palm Beach Atlantic universities. Being born and raised in Denmark, where his latest call was to pastor the First Baptist Church of Copenhagen, Dr. Vang’s academic interest has always related to the global mission of God’s Kingdom. "When everything is said and done," he says, "I’m really just a pastor who loves books and who enjoys thinking deeply and out loud about the content and significance of the church’s message."

Working as an engineer in electronics, Dr. Vang heard God’s call to full-time ministry in his early twenties. This led to a Bachelor of Theology degree from the Danish Baptist Theological Seminary followed by Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Beside these degrees, he has done post graduate studies at the University of Leuven, Rüschlikon Baptist Theological Seminary, and the University of Copenhagen. Professionally, Dr. Vang is a member of Society of Biblical Literature (SBL), Institute for Biblical Research (IBR), and Evangelical Theological Society (ETS) where he actively participates. His academic training focused on the theology of Paul, writing his doctoral dissertation on Paul’s relational understanding of the Spirit. Beyond his lingering interest in this area, his focus on the connection between biblical studies, theology and the church’s witness has led to publications in variety of related areas. His latest book is a commentary on 1 Corinthians in Baker Publisher’s Teach the Text Series. Other books include Telling God’s Story (B&H) which was originally written as a college text book designed to help students understand the grand narrative of Scripture by connecting the biblical books from Genesis to Revelation in a storyline format. This books is now available also in Spanish.

Other publications like book chapters, Study-Bible essays, Bible dictionary- and Academic journal articles span a great spectrum of topics - from considerations like "A Critique of Moral Relativism" over issues like "The Church in the Mission of God" to studies like "Sanctification in Thessalonians." The content of the book in press at the moment (Weaver Book Company) is given by its title: "Making Connections: A Workbook for Finding Your Place in God’s Story." It is designed to help Christian lay-people understand the flow of the biblical narrative.

Always a pastor, either full time, in an interim capacity, or as a church planter, he is convinced the church is God’s tool to change the world. His appointment to the seminary is an extension of this perspective. He considers the equipping of the church and her leadership the most significant and prominent function of the seminary.

On the private level, Dr. Vang enjoys engaging conversations, hanging out with friend over a good cup of coffee, hiking, and tinkering with cars. The greatest joy in his life is being with his family - not the least his sweet little grandkids.
