Research & Impact

Social workers influence policy and impact lives everyday. They seek to improve quality of life for everyone they serve, from one individual to entire communities. They respond to some of the most pressing social issues of our time including poverty, human trafficking, immigration, and other challenges that threaten the world's most vulnerable children and adults. Through the work of students, faculty, alumni and friends of the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, meaningful change is happening all over the world.

The Garland School of Social Work has a rich history of embodying the core values of the social work profession: service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. Our commitment to instilling these values within our context of a Christian university gives us a unique opportunity to challenge our students in the complex, yet the vital process of ethically integrating faith and social work practice. As wholistic human beings, we seek to understand, empathize with, and serve the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. Our vision is to equip our graduates for effective service and leadership and conduct research that addresses both human crises and long-term, complex social problems locally and globally.

Through research and initiatives, we are helping to find solutions to a world of challenges. From working to aid congregations in ministering to their communities to developing resources that will contribute to health aging, we are continuously striving to make the world a better place for generations to come!
