Campus-Based Family Services
Campus-Based Family Services was a contract-funded initiative to improve behavioral management in a local school district through direct intervention and teacher training. The three-year (2016-2019) grant of $348,967, funded by Waco ISD, provided for a behavioral management team of five faculty members and four graduate students.
CDF Freedom Schools
Freedom Schools is a seven-week summer literacy enrichment program. Children read culturally relevant books and explore STEAM activities and character building and social action projects through interactive, meaningful curriculum.
EnAbled for College
EnAbled for College provided one-on-one mentoring to disabled and at-risk high school students to encourage and enable them to pursue post-secondary education. Many of the students mentored had learning disabilities. Mentors meet one-on-one with students to explain college admissions, go over FAFSA forms, and help with the application process. The project ran from 2010-2019 with funding from AT&T Foundation of $225,000 for 2016-19,
Green Chemistry (NSF)
In 2015 and 2016, Dr. Suzanne Nesmith, associate dean in the Baylor School of Education, spearheaded the educational component of a collaborative National Science Foundation grant, with approximately $72,000 in annual funding. The project focused on "green chemistry" and the testing of commercial products and water sources.
Immersed in the Wetlands
As Dr. Suzanne Nesmith, science educator and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, wrapped up work on a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), her project providing professional development for science teachers dovetailed with emerging collaborations.
Nesmith’s initial EPA grant in 2018 provided $91,000, with support from Baylor of $30,000, funding summer programs of teacher professional development at Lake Waco Wetlands for two years.
