Amy Petrongelli, soprano

Lauded in the New York Times for her “admirable fluidity,” soprano Amy Petrongelli revels in singing music of all different periods and styles. Her diverse career as a solo performer encompasses Haydn’s Creation in Carnegie Hall to Berio’s Sequenza III at the Radio Nacional Córdoba in Argentina.

An advocate for new music, Amy frequently works with living composers bringing to life new works for the voice. Recent premieres include the unaccompanied song cycle In Spring by Juliana Hall, and a new arrangement of Christopher Cerrone’s Goldbeater’s Skin for soprano and percussion quartet. In 2017, Amy joined the Houston Grand Opera to premiere the role of Margie in Some Light Emerges, an opera by the award-winning creative trio of composer Laura Kaminsky and librettists Mark Campbell and Kimberly Reed. Amy is also a founding member of the contemporary chamber ensemble, Khemia. Now in its fourth season, the Khemia ensemble has led residencies and been featured on new music festivals across North and South America.

An avid recitalist, she has appeared in art song recitals across the Midwest and East Coast for organizations such as the Casement Fund Recital Series in Brooklyn, NY, The Block in Muskegon, MI, and the Contemporary Undercurrent of Song Project in Princeton, NJ. Amy’s commitment to musical collaboration has led her to fellowships at summer programs such as the Tanglewood Music Center, Eighth Blackbird Creative Lab, and Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar.

A passionate educator, Amy has taught at the Pennsylvania State University, University of Michigan, the University of Akron, and Eastern Michigan University. She has also been a guest teacher at both the Collaborative Piano Institute and the Brancaleoni International Music Festival. Amy is currently a member of the voice faculty at Baylor University in Waco, TX where she can be found running, reading, and cooking with her euphonium-playing husband.
