Performance Opportunities

The Baylor School of Music offers remarkable performance opportunities through its esteemed chamber music and large ensemble programs. Our large ensembles include the Baylor Symphony Orchestra (Stephen Heyde, director), the Baylor Wind Ensemble (Eric Wilson, director), and the Baylor Symphonic Band (Isaiah Odajima, director). These ensembles combine a stimulating learning environment with a high level of artistic achievement, and regularly present concerts nationwide and abroad.

Studio Mission

The students who make up the Baylor Oboe Studio are enthusiastic and dedicated to musical excellence. We work hard in an atmosphere of creative pursuit of students' individual goals, while supporting and encouraging each other. Every year, students in the oboe studio have the opportunity to work in master classes with world-class guest artists. Weekly studio classes and reed-making classes offer a framework to further their playing and reed-making skills.

Teaching Philosophy

The program is focused around a firm grounding of the fundamentals of tone production, finger agility, and expressive musical phrasing. These fundamentals are refined through the practice of long-tones, technique methods, memorized scales, articulation exercises, Barret and Ferling etudes, orchestral excerpts, solo repertoire, and reed-making.

Alumni of the Baylor Oboe Studio have successfully auditioned for and continued their musical studies at prestigious schools and conservatories, and have won orchestra positions across the nation.
