Interested in Theory?
Special strengths of music theory at Baylor in comparison to other colleges and universities include our excellent teaching faculty, our small class sizes (generally ranging from 10 to 25 students), and the personal attention our students receive both in and out of class. Baylor students study with full-time professional music theorists, not graduate assistants. Our theory faculty are active musicians with varied specialties in research, composition, and performance, and all share commitment to excellence in the classroom and to Baylor's distinctive mission. Students choosing to major in music theory will conduct research under faculty mentors who are engaged in scholarly discourse on national and international levels. Faculty also share their research with students through special topic seminars, and prominent theorists from across the country. Graduates with degrees in theory from Baylor have gone on to doctoral study at other prestigious institutions and have become theory professors themselves.
