Outdoor Leadership

The outdoor leadership field school is a for-credit course held over the May term. It is an expeditionary adventure based experience in which students develop and practice leadership skills through immersion in the wilderness.

Outdoor adventure in a wilderness setting over multiple days is a unique opportunity for fun, escape, interaction with the natural environment, self-reflection, a shared experience, as well as a transformative educational experience.

In 2022, we will travel to northeastern Minnesota to explore the Boundary Waters Wilderness by foot and in canoe. We will backpack and paddle in an area that is frequently considered a bucket list trip and “the best American adventure”. This area is known for wildlife like moose and wolves; and is often described by its vast, pristine characteristics that provide chances for solitude and escape. On the way we will rock climb at the Wichita Mt. Wildlife Refuge and Shovel Point in Silver Bay, Minnesota. This year’s trip is limited to 7 participants due to permit restrictions. Register soon!
