ACEND Accreditation Status

Baylor University's undergraduate program in pre-dietetics is an accredited program by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

The students who complete the Pre-Dietetics concentration will receive a verification statement upon completion of the major. The curriculum in the Nutrition Sciences program is currently granted accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2190, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 312- 899-0040 Ext. 5400.

Successful completion of the Nutrition Sciences program, university graduation requirements, an accredited internship, and other ACEND  requirements qualifies the student to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) examination to become a Registered Dietitian. Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is based upon the major of Nutrition Sciences and is open to undergraduate students.

Important Information for Current and Prospective Students:

Effective January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master’s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). In addition, CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). {if applicable: In [name of state], graduates also must obtain [licensure, certification] to practice.} Graduates who successfully complete the ACEND-accredited [program type] at [Institution name] are eligible to [apply to an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program/apply to take the CDR credentialing exam to become an RDN].

Complaint Related to the Program

A student enrolled in the Baylor DPD  pre-dietetics program who has a complaint related to the program can file a complaint with the DPD Director. The complaint should be in writing and submitted in a sealed envelope to the DPD Director.  The complaint must be signed by the person submitting. 

The DPD director will meet with the student and pursue avenues to resolve the complaint. If the student is not satisfied the DPD director will present the complaint to the Department Chair.  The Chair then will attempt to resolve the issue and then if not satisfied the complaint will be presented to the Dean of the College. If the student is still not satisfied the following Baylor University Grievance Policy process will be followed.

The student can confidently bring these concerns being assured that retaliation will not occur in anyway to the student.  The department chair will coordinate these activities, gaining assurance from affected parties that no retaliation will occur.
