What it's all about

While the study of history may not ensure that we can predict future events, it does provide us an opportunity to explore the past as a means of better understanding our world and human forces within it. Students not only learn the facts, but also gain the ability to critically analyze data and interpret its meaning for human lives.

You might take classes such as:

  •  Hitler and the Holocaust
  •  Historiography and Philosophy of History
  •  History of Medicine
  •  Medieval Britain

Graduates of this major go on to:

  •  legal careers
  •  teach at the college or university level following appropriate advanced degrees (MA, PhD) in the field
  •  teach history or social studies at the elementary or secondary level
  •  public history (practical application of historical knowledge in libraries, museums, historical associations)
  •  journalism
  •  public sector careers with governmental agencies at the local, state or national level
  •  international business
