George W. Truett Theological Seminary will sponsor its fifth annual Hispanic Preaching Conference today and Saturday. The conference is headed by Truett Seminary, the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Baptist University of the Americas.
Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary will host nearly 200 pastors and laypeople who minister in Hispanic churches during the annual Hispanic Preaching Conference March 30-31 at Truett Seminary.
After skyrocketing George W. Truett Theological Seminary's endowment to $30 million above the average seminary's $8 million coffer, Dr. Paul W. Powell is stepping down as seminary dean. Dr. David Garland, Truett Academic Affairs Associate Dean, is stepping up to take his place.
Dr. Randall O'Brien, provost and executive vice president at Baylor University, has announced the appointment of Dr. David E. Garland, associate dean for academic affairs and The William M. Hinson Professor of Christian Scriptures, as dean of George W. Truett Theological Seminary. A unanimous selection of the Truett faculty, Garland will begin his term as dean on June 1, succeeding well-known Texas Baptist pastor and leader Paul W. Powell, who will officially retire on May 31.
Truett Seminary will be holding the 1st Annual Paul Powell Golf Classic on May 1st, 2007 at Bear Ridge Golf Club. The tournament will be a 4-man scramble with prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
World-renowned theologian, author and ordained minister of the United Methodist Church, Dr. Justo L. Gonzalez has been chosen as this year's speaker for the Parchman Endowed Lecture, which begins today and ends on Thursday.
Funeral services for entrepreneur, philanthropist and former Baylor University Regent John F. Baugh will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston. The founder and retired senior chairman of SYSCO Corporation died March 5 in San Antonio at the age of 91. He served Baylor from 1987-96 as a trustee and regent and generously supported numerous Baylor programs and projects, wherever he saw a need, for more than 20 years.
Dr. Howard K. Batson, Baylor University regent and pastor of First Baptist Church in Amarillo, will speak on his book "Jesus is Lord: Exploring the Meaning of Jesus's Lordship" during a luncheon at noon Wednesday, March 7, in the Piper Great Hall of George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
