Why are standing orders for travel being discontinued?
Standing orders established for travel, particularly airfare, do not provide sufficient control for departmental purchasing. Though a standing order may be depleted, a vendor (travel agency) is not knowledgeable of the budget depletion and may continue to allow purchases to be made, given a standing order number. In addition, budget funds may not be available to support the purchases being made.
