Communities in Schools focuses on building healthy relationships through social services and mentoring. Communities in Schools is the nation's leading community-based organization helping more than two million young people each year stay in school and prepare for life. Administered by the Texas Education Agency, CIS of Texas is an exemplary stay in school program funded by the Texas Legislature since 1989. CIS has the largest dropout prevention program in the state. Local CIS programs are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations established to support schools by working with at-risk students in order to decrease the dropout rate.
