Hunger Free Communities

Tom Green County Hunger Coalition, our Food Planning Association (FPA)

The Tom Green County Hunger Coalition (TGCHC) is a coalition of organizations and individuals committed to making Tom Green County food secure. The mission of the Coalition is to empower Tom Green County residents to gain equal access to healthy food. The Tom Green County Hunger Coalition is made up of organizations representing the civic, nonprofit, business and faith communities.

TGCHC works through focus groups, including Community Gardens, Summer Meals, Senior Meals, and Health and Wellness to:

  1. Increase access to federally funded programs to those who qualify
  2. Grow and provide access to healthy food (production-focused)
  3. Increase access to non-federally funded anti-hunger programs
  4. Decrease the number of food deserts and food swamps (access-focused)

The Coalition is led by a steering committee, which includes the chairs of the focus groups. All Coalition members also meet for monthly meetings. An annual West Texas Hunger Summit is held in the spring for the entire San Angelo Region as an invaluable time of learning, sharing ideas and strengthening partnerships in our goal of ending hunger in the communities of our region.
