Hunger Free Communities

Dallas Coalition for Hunger Solutions

The Dallas Coalition for Hunger Solutions (DCHS) is a coalition of organizations and individuals committed to making the Dallas area food secure. The mission of the Coalition is to empower Dallas area residents to gain equal access to healthy food. DCHS is chaired by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, and has more than 100 organizations represented from the civic, health, nonprofit, business and faith communities.

DCHS works through five Action Teams:
  1. Child Hunger
  2. Senior Hunger
  3. Faith Community Hunger Solutions
  4. Urban Agriculture
  5. Neighborhood Organizing

The Coalition is led by a Leadership Team, which includes the chairs of each of the five Action Teams. Once a year, the Coalition holds a Hunger Summit to invite the entire Dallas community to learn about the activities of the Coalition and the ways they can be involved in ending hunger locally.

The Coalition has developed a Hunger Solutions for the Faith Community guide that presents ten sustainable initiatives that congregations can undertake to have a significant impact on reducing hunger. Click here to find out more and download the guide.
