A Walkthrough is required at the beginning of every shift that you work, and should be done more often when necessary. To conduct each Walkthrough, pass up and down every aisle or group of furniture in all areas of the facility. Complete all the steps listed below as you walk. Take the Cleaning Caddy with you!
Maintain our Desk Area:
Check all drawers on EACH of the 3 big printers, to make sure they're full. Refill as needed (Don't over-fill).
Check the display on EACH of the printers, to make sure they're 'Ready.'
Check the patron supply table, to make sure it's stocked; make sure the equipment there is working. (Restock / repair / report as needed).
Check on these needed supplies in the office (Request more as needed):
- Printer Paper & Toner (B&W, + 4 kinds for Color printer)
- Paper Forms (Out of Order signs, Wait Lists, Paper Checkouts, Laptop Cleaning forms
SHUT DOWN all laptops that are ON in the cabinet, AND plug them all in!
CLEAN ONE LAPTOP that is present in the cabinet, which has not yet been signed off on the current Laptop Cleaning form!
Straighten/organize all items in the checkout equipment drawers.
Maintain the Dottie Riley Room:
Check the appropriate Dottie Riley calendar for current or upcoming reservations (on Week Days check the paper calendar; Evenings and Weekends check the online calendar where YOU schedule reservations for students).
Enter the Dottie Riley room as soon as no users are present, WHILE a coworker is at the Desk.
Push in all chairs
Pick up all trash
Make sure all the room's furniture is inside (12 chairs, 5 tables)
Make sure the monitor is shut down (use the access panel).
Turn off the lights. NO NEED to clean whiteboards in this room, for now (EL staff want to display how the room has been used).
Maintain our Patron Study Area:
Arrange all unoccupied furniture neatly, according to the furniture charts in the Caddy.
Push in all empty computer station chairs, straighten keyboards and monitors.
Pick up and throw away all trash in the facility.
Sweep up all floor scraps.
Clean all unoccupied white boards; make sure each has an eraser & marker.
Clean THREE of the dirtiest unoccupied Desktop monitors in the Patron Study Area, using the Monitor Cleaner & paper towel.
SANITIZE the Keyboard and Mouse at those same THREE workstations, using Clorox wipes.
Clean off ALL sticky residue and pen / pencil marks on unoccupied tables.
Pick up all lost items and take them to the Lost & Found Office AS SOON AS a coworker is present at the Desk.
Pick up all Library materials and take them to the nearest book cart / return shelf AS SOON AS a coworker is present.
CLEAN OUT THE CADDY WHEN YOU ARE DONE WITH IT!

Study Commons furniture must stay in our area. Bring it back if you see any in the garden, old Java City area, or elsewhere.
Keep an eye out for patrons who need assistance - help them!
Look out for patrons breaking our Rules of Use - warn them & report them:
- No tobacco products are allowed
- No inappropriate material may be accessed on our computers.
Watch for broken or missing equipment & technical problems - fix or report!
Look for unattended desktops that are still logged in - lock them or log them out!
Look for serious spills, stains and other cleaning issues - report anything you can't clean up yourself.
