The Foster Success Center
In the context of the rigorous academic environment at Baylor, the Paul L. Foster Success Center (PLFSC) provides an environment for all students that is challenging, invigorating, enriching, and supportive. It fosters deep engagement in the academic community as well as fulfillment of personal goals and aspirations. The PLFSC consists of five administrative departments.
The Office of University Advisement assists most first-year and some transfer students within specific majors by developing academic plans and clarifying personal goals during the advising appointments. (All other students are assigned to other advising areas on campus.) This office also serves as a reference point for all students who have general advising questions and coordinates advising efforts campus-wide.
The Office of Academic Support Programs offers all students the opportunity to build academic skills through resources including a graded study skills course, topical workshops, academic counseling, tutoring, and Supplemental Instruction sessions. Trained graduate students provide academic mentoring for Summer Studies students and students on academic probation.
The Office of Access and Learning Accommodation provides services and accommodations for students with disabilities in order to enable them to succeed academically.
The Office of Career Counseling provides in-depth, inventory-based career counseling that helps students identify an appropriate major and begin to pursue their career goals. Counselors provide guidance on the choice of the degree program and major that will best suit each student's interests, talents, and future plans.
The Office of Career and Professional Development assists students and alumni as they make decisions about their professional goals and job search opportunities. The department partners with students as they search for career options, internship placements, and other professional opportunities. Career and Professional Development provides students with services that include job fairs, résumé critiquing, interview preparation, and on-campus interviews.
The PLFSC is located in the Sid Richardson Building; further information is available at: http://www.baylor.edu/successcenter/
