Location:In France, universities are divided into smaller entities which group the faculties of ascertain area of studies. Each area receives a number: I = Natural Sciences, II = Arts and Languages, Ill = Law, Economics and Political Sciences, for example. The University of Lille I is a Sciences and Technology orientated higher education establishment, which also includes the Faculty of Geography and the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. The University of Lille was founded in 1562 by the Spanish and became French in 1667. It became established in the heart of Lille in 1854, then in 1964 it moved to its current site in Villeneuve d'Ascq. The USTL is one of the great French universities in the fields of research and training.
The University of Lilie I is situated in the north of France, within easy access of the ports of France and the main motor way system which runs through Europe. The University of Lille I has a teaching and research staff of 1,000 and a student population of roughly 23,000. Located in the heart of Northern Europe, Villeneuve d'Ascq has all the assets to become a technological center for Europe. The geographical location of the town favors the exchange of students and ideas. Villeneuve d'Ascq is directly linked by the VAL 'metro' to the high speed train of Lille. Villeneuve d'Ascq is a pleasant town to live in and to study in. As far as leisure time is concerned, the town has 100 recreation centers which offer its 43,000 students miscellaneous sporting possibilities.

Application Procedure:Students are first required to be nominated to attend a MAUI-Utrecht program. Email Katie_Erickson@baylor.edu to schedule an interview to be nominated for the program. More information regarding the application process will be given at the interview.

Costs:Students will pay tuition to Baylor and housing to the host university. Housing ranges from 200 to 350 EUROS depending on what type of housing the student chooses. Expect to spend 2.80 EUROS or more per meal and around 90 EUROS for books per month. In addition, students should budget between 33 to 40 EUROS for transportation per month.
Each student is responsible for their own transportation, including airfare.
Legal Documents:A passport and residence permit are required. More information regarding student visas will be given upon acceptance to the university.
