ASHRAE.org: Outstanding Achievements Recognized At ASHRAE’s Annual Conference

Dennis L. O’Neal, Ph.D., P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, dean of Baylor’s School of Engineering and Computer Science, received a Technical Paper Award, which recognizes the authors of the best papers presented at the annual conference of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers). Dr. O’Neal, research assistant Douglas Damon Ingram and Carl Reid of Bee USA received the award for their paper “Modeling Fan Powered Terminal Unit Fan/Motor Combinations Controlled by Silicon-Controlled Rectifiers.” (Eric Eckert, Baylor Media Communications specialist, covers engineering and computer science research and faculty.)

CBS News: Why parents in the U.S. have the biggest "happiness gap"

Parents in the United States generally are not as happy as those without children, with the major reason being the relative lack of family-friendly policies in the American workplace, like paid sick and vacation days, flexible work hours and paid parental leave, said co-researcher Matthew Andersson, Ph.D., assistant professor of sociology in Baylor’s College of Arts & Sciences. The U.S. also has the largest "happiness gap" among parents compared to nonparents in 22 industrialized countries, according to the study, to be published in the American Journal of Sociology. KOSA-TV (Odessa/CBS): Researcher: Zika Mosquitoes ‘Bite at All Times of the Day’

Richard Duhrkopf, Ph.D., associate professor of biology in Baylor’s College of Arts & Sciences, is working to prevent the spread of mosquitoes with the Zika virus. Duhrkopf said Zika-carrying mosquitoes act differently than other breeds. They breed in almost any container with standing water, large or small, and are active throughout the day. WACO, Texas (June 24, 2016) – Baylor University and Art Briles have mutually agreed to terminate their employment relationship, effective immediately. Both parties acknowledge that there were serious shortcomings in the response to reports of sexual violence by some student-athletes, including deficiencies in University processes and the delegation of disciplinary responsibilities with the football program. Baylor is addressing these shortcomings and making ongoing improvements.
