Recent artwork created by Baylor studio art majors Veronica Campbell and Rachel Taylor has generated tens of thousands of dollars to help Zambian orphans. Campbell and Taylor traveled to Zambia this summer with Baylor Missions and its women’s leadership team. The finished canvases of trees - with leaves made by orphans’ fingerprints - were auctioned to raise funds for the Legacy Academy at the Family Legacy Tree of Life Children’s Village, a community for orphaned children located outside Lusaka, Zambia’s capital.

Musical Tastes Are Cultural in Origin, Not ‘Hard-wired’ in the Brain, Study Suggests

WACO, Texas (Aug. 23, 2016) — Scientists previously thought musical preferences are “hard-wired” in the brain, but a new study of a remote Amazonian farming and foraging community suggests that musical tastes are cultural in origin. One of the study’s authors, published in the journal Nature, is Alan Schultz, Ph.D., M.P.H., assistant professor of anthropology in Baylor’s College of Arts & Sciences.
