Every student organization is require to have an up-to-date constitution and/or by-laws. This will help in the development of a new organization and in the stability of an existing one. Constitutions are required to be:
(1) voted on and approved by the general membership, and
(2) submitted to the Department of Student Activities for approval at the time of recognition and at any time it is changed.
ALL constitutions are required to contain statements which address the following points:
Include any national affiliation if relevant
II. PURPOSE AND GOALS
Include a concise statement of purpose, goals, direction, etc.
III. MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Include information on standards for gpa and enrollment status*
*Baylor requires active members to have at minimum a cumulative GPA of 2.33 and current GPA of 2.00 and be enrolled in at minimum 12 semester hours (or full-time equivalent for graduate students)
IV. OFFICER INFORMATION
Include a list of officers, their duties, and requirements*
*Baylor requires students serving in formal positions of leadership to have at minimum a cumulative GPA of 2.67 and current GPA of 2.00 and be enrolled in at minimum 12 semester hours (or full-time equivalent for graduate students)
Include information on meetings and quorums to conduct business
VI. ORGANIZATION OF FINANCES
Explain the process for the assessment of dues and other finances
VII. JUDICIAL PROCESS
Explain the process for reviewing and adjudicating judicial issues associated with the organization.
Indicate how to approve amendments to the organization constitution*
*Organizations must include a statement that changes are required to be approved by the Department of Student Activities
Describe the requirements and roles of student organization advisors.
