WACO, Texas-- The Office of the Student Body External Vice President has announced that the annual Hay Day Straw Poll will be held on Thursday, October 23rd, 2008.
In conjunction with the upcoming presidential election, the presidential straw poll encourages Baylor students to become politically informed on all of the candidates that are currently seeking the highest office of the land.
After a successful "Rock the Vote" campaign held by the Baylor Student Government and Department of Student Activities last month, Hay Day will look to expound on student political participation by providing the probable voter with everything that they will need in order to be prepared to vote on November 4th.
"The point of [Hay Day] is to create awareness for the election, which is just over two weeks away. It is incredibly important that young people our age get out and vote," remarks Sam Chen, an Allentown, Pa., senior. "The straw poll creates awareness for the election and informs [the voter] with pamphlets helping students make responsible decisions on Election Day."
Pamphlets discussing each presidential candidate's political platform will be provided to students that seek a better understanding of the issues and policies that will be affecting them over the next presidential term.
The Hay Day Presidential Straw Poll is scheduled from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Baylor's Fountain Mall. Food and drinks will be provided to participants by the Baylor Student Government as well as the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.
