Understanding the University grievance procedure BU-PP 822.

All student employment is administered through the Student Financial Aid Office. Baylor University complies with all applicable federal and state nondiscrimination laws and does not engage in prohibited discrimination on the basis of race, color, nationality or ethnic origin, sex, age or disability in employment or the provision of services. The following information will address many of your questions. After reviewing the information below, you may select the "What to do - Step by Step" link at the left to begin your search.

Who can be employed

Baylor University students who are eligible to work in the United States may compete for on-campus jobs. Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligible students have priority through the first three weeks of class of the fall semester. Please be aware that that number of students who qualify for FWS is larger than the number of available positions. All students will not be employed. If you decline your FWS award in order to receive another type of aid, you are limited to loans and will no longer be eligible to work on campus for the remainder of the current academic year.

When to begin the job search

You may begin the job search as soon as you have registered for classes, you have been notified of your eligiblity for the upcoming award period, and available positions are posted.

Priority deadline

We give priority for on-campus employment to students who have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and who have accepted Federal Work-Study(FWS)eligibility. FWS is a financial aid program.

The Student Financial Aid Office sets a date (usually three weeks into the Fall semester) when on-campus employment will be opened to other Baylor University students who are eligible to work in the United States and do not qualify for FWS. The priority deadline for Fall 2016 is September 12, 2016.

Eligibility for community service jobs

Due to federal regulations, community service designated jobs are available only to those students who are eligible for Federal Work-Study (FWS).

Hour limitations

Several factors dictate how many hours per week a student can work on campus.
• Cannot work during times that the student is scheduled to be in class,
• Cannot earn more than the eligiblity amount and
• Cannot work more than 20 hours per week while enrolled in classes. This is a Baylor policy intended to protect the academic pursuits of the student.

Example: Semester award divided by hourly wage equals number of hours. $1,325.00/$7.25 = 182.75 hours

Number of hours divided by number of weeks per semester equals number of hours to work per week. 182.75 hours/20 weeks = 9.14 hours per week

The budget of the hiring department may limit the student to a lower number of hours per week than they are eligible to work or would like to work.
