Position
The Office Assistant works with the staff of the Bill Daniel Student Center in planning, organizing, and directing the Center's day to day operations and independently performs a wide range of management assignments. The work requires coordinating and supervising the activities of student and housekeeping employees and responsibility for the efficient operation of the Student Center from 7:00 a.m. until midnight (12:00 a.m.) Monday through Saturday and from 2:00 p.m. until midnight (12:00 a.m.) on Sundays. Frequently, there are extended hours on Friday and Saturday due to scheduled events and activities. Work schedule has flexibility that includes daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

The Office Assistant is responsible for the general operation and oversight of the Bill Daniel Student Center while on duty. The Office Assistant shall ensure that all setups, changes, and takedowns are performed as requested. The Office Assistant is responsible for the overall health, safety, and security of the building, its furnishings and equipment, and occupants and shall follow proper safety and security procedures.

Statement of Customer Relations Expectations
The position of Office Assistant requires an individual with a friendly, helpful disposition. The Office Assistant is the first contact for anyone coming into the student center office. In addition, the student center office is the source for scheduling, reserving, and providing information for the entire student center; therefore, the person at the front desk must be able to answer the telephone in a professional manner and provide the assistance the situation requires. The ability to work in a highly pressured environment with a diverse group of students, faculty, alumni, and community groups is essential.

The Scheduling and Reservations Office is a business office and requires atmosphere and dress appropriate to this setting. Caps, shorts, and "flip-flops", are not allowed. The Bill Daniel Student Center serves a student, faculty, staff, and community constituency for informal and formal gatherings and appropriate business-like dress is expected while coat and tie dress may be required for some events.

Specific Responsibilities
The Office Assistant will perform functions related to office management (filing, daily postings, word processing, ticket office processes, dispatch for THE RIDE), supervision (meetings, events, and organization activities, training), building operations (safety, opening/closing, conducting observation rounds), customer relations (event sponsor needs, telephone courtesy), and arrangements (audio/visual, change-overs, take-downs, property upkeep), and other duties for events held in the Bill Daniel Student Center.

Qualifications
Must qualify for Work-Study Program. A positive, friendly attitude in working with peers, supervisors, and "customers" is essential toward those who seek information and assistance (courtesy). Commitment to providing quality customer service. Willingness to work late evenings (nights) and weekends. Dependability is expected of all staff members. Initiative and problem solving skills. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting and climb stairs. Willingness to gain knowledge of the facility, philosophy, policies and procedures of the Bill Daniel Student Center as well as Baylor University and the 2012 Vision.
