The first Steppin' Out was held in the spring of 1985. At that time, Steppin' Out was a full week of events leading up to the big day of service.
In 1989, the project became a one day event ocurring in both the fall and spring semesters. By 1993 Steppin' Out was chartered as an independent organization under the Department of Student Activities.
Spring 2005 marked Steppin' Out's 20th anniversary and both Baylor students and the Waco community participated in this celebration with record-high numbers.
Steppin' Out is one of the largest community service projects on American college campuses and is nationally recognized for its commitment to service.
