About the Office for Student Organizations

The Department of Student Activities:
"The Department of Student Activities challenges students to become people of influence through student organization membership, exceptional campus programs, leadership development, and a commitment to serving our communities by connecting generations of students to the life of the university."

Learning Outcomes Support Statement
We accomplish this mission by encouraging and enabling students to become influential leaders through building community, valuing diversity, practicing stewardship, growing intellectually, and nurturing personal faith.
In accomplishing the mission of the department, Student Organizations fulfills the following purposes:
• Enhance the academic experience of students by providing opportunities for learning to be applied outside the classroom environment

• Provide meaningful leadership development opportunities for students engaged in student organizations

• Ensure student organization accountability and responsibility for compliance with University policies and procedures
Student Organizations views student organizations as vehicles through which individual student development can meaningfully occur. We seek to build relationships with organizational leaders in order to encourage and facilitate students' leadership development. Students' ongoing leadership development through student organizations will include the development of Leadership Core Competencies: Vision; Integrity; Organization; Communication; and Faith development.

The secondary purpose of the Student Organizations is to build lasting organizational structures that will accommodate the lasting legacy of student organizations.

Five Values of Student Activities:

I. Respect All Persons
Actively value and honor the similarities, differences and contributions of every individual as a unique and contributing member of the Baylor University community.

II. Be Vision and Purpose Minded
Be positive ambassadors and representatives of the values, mission and purpose of both your organization and Baylor University. Refrain from activities that cheapen or do not advance these ideals.

III. Demonstrate Active Care
Demonstrate active care for the emotional, physical, spiritual, social, and intellectual well being of every individual within and outside of the organization.

IV. Demonstrate Good Stewardship
Operate with integrity in the management/development of resources your organization has been entrusted with. Create a legacy by leaving things better than you found them.

V. Intentionally Influence
Serve as a positive force within your organization and the University. In both the leadership and followership roles that you have, build up, encourage, and advance the causes and purposes of Baylor and your organization, bringing about positive change in all arenas of influence.
