Baylor's Greek Community is organized into four governing councils: Baylor Panhellenic Council (sororities), Interfraternity Council (fraternities), Multicultural Greek Council (multicultural fraternities and sororities), and National Pan-Hellenic Council (historically African-American fraternities and sororities).
When you join one of the 9 Baylor Panhellenic Council sororities, you not only become a member of that particular chapter, you also become a member of the Panhellenic community. The Baylor Panhellenic Council is the organization that governs the sororities on campus and organizes activities of mutual concern and interest to all members.
The Interfraternity Council is the governing body of 14 fraternal organizations. The council aids the 14 chapter fraternities in the areas of recruitment, risk management, academic, service, public relations, financial and educational programming.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is comprised of the seven historically African-American fraternities and sororities. Under NPHC, fraternities and sororities unite to participate in community service and philanthropic activities, step shows, educational programs, and social events.
The Multicultural Greek Council on the Baylor campus was created as a vehicle to improve and create dialogue and cooperation between the multicultural fraternities and sororities. At this time it is composed of six sororities and two fraternities.
Baylor is also home to several Greek organizations simply referred to as "Locals". At one time all of Baylor's Greek organizations existed as "local social clubs." Today a number of Greek organizations have chosen to remain local. Baylor's Local Greeks are not members of a governing council. Although each of these organizations may be unique, the missions are the same and include scholarship, service to others, leadership and friendship.
