GSA Outstanding Department Award
May 7, 2009
The GSA Executive Council would like to formally congratulate the Statistics Department for being awarded this year's GSA Outstanding Department Award. This is the first year the GSA has conferred this award to recognize efforts for involvement in GSA and improving graduate school life for the entire department and the graduate school overall.
This year, under the capable, diligent, and enthusiastic leadership of GSA representatives Linda Njoh and Monica Bennett, the Department of Statistics has stood above the rest. Not only did your department have excellent attendance at the GSA General Council meetings this year, but consistently brought in other graduate students to attend the meetings who also participated by initiating conversations about incorporating the needs of international graduate students, among others, into our programs and deliberations. Their attendance and participation have contributed significantly to our goals of positively promoting graduate students in building their own sense of community, and helping us in the GSA build bridges with other parts of the university.
In addition, we recognize the initiative you all have taken to provide GSA shirts for the graduate students in your department and we have upheld this initiative as a model for other departments to recognize their graduate students and promote visibility of our graduate programs to the greater university community.
Again, thank you for your part in supporting your graduate students, and congratulations on winning this award. We hope you will encourage as many of your colleagues and graduate students to attend the GSA Awards Reception this Tuesday, May 5th at 7pm in the Cashion Building, 5th floor of the business school, to receive this award.
Sincerely,
Alessandra L. Gonz lez
Vice President, Baylor University Graduate Student Association
