Welcome to the Baylor University Department of Statistical Science. The Department of Statistical Science was created in June 2004 when it replaced the Institute of Statistics as the home for graduate statistics programs at Baylor University. The Ph.D. and M.A. (now M.S.) degrees in Statistics were first administered in 1991. Since that time the program has produced approximately 40 doctoral and 50 master level students. The degree programs are designed to provide a balance between statistical theory and applications of statistical methods with an emphasis being placed on acquiring research, consulting, and teaching skills that were applicable to the biomedical, industrial, and academic careers.

Statistics and Biostatistics are exciting and challenging disciplines that have proven to be of great value in many diverse areas of our modern society. Our graduates have found themselves to be very competitive in obtaining employment in academia, the private sector and in government.

Academic Excellence

The faculty and staff in the Department are committed to providing our undergraduate and graduate students with an excellent diversified educational experience. Our faculty prides itself on being outstanding teachers and mentors while striving to maintain scholarly productivity that is at the cutting edge of research in statistics and biostatistics.

Baylor Statistics and Eli Lilly Company Honored with National Award for Collaboration
WACO, Texas (July 31, 2012)- When Dr. John Seaman, professor of statistical science at Baylor University, began working with his former Ph.D. student Stacey Lindborg, he didn't realize what exactly it would lead to. His work with Lindborg was just the beginning of a strong collaboration between Baylor's department of statistical science and Eli Lilly and Company--a union that was recently honored by the American Statistical Association with the Statistical Partnerships among Academe, Industry, and Government (SPAIG) Award.

When is Reproducibility an Ethical Issue? Genomics, Personalized Medicine, and Human Error
Dr. Keith Baggerly, of M.D. Anderson, will be presenting a colloquium on his discovery of cancer researchers at Duke University falsifying results through statistical analysis (and persistence). His discovery was so important that it was featured on 60 Minutes and the front page of the New York Times. Please encourage your faculty, undergraduate and graduate students to attend.
