Staff Council - Fall Information

Oct. 31, 2007

Dear Colleagues,

Each fall as the new academic year unfolds, Baylor is bustling with activity. It is also the time of year when Staff Council begins its regular meeting schedule. The Council has already been hard at work discussing important issues, planning professional development events, and meeting with University administration.

In our September meeting, the Council unanimously agreed upon a list of priorities, goals, and issues for discussion and action during the 2007-2008 academic year. Some of these goals include becoming a visible, active, and representative staff body; establishing an effective voice for staff; ensuring staff representation on University committees; evaluating a University Code of Ethics; assuming a leadership role in the United Way Campaign; and participating in the University's strategic planning process. To read the complete list of priorities, please read the Council's Statement of Intent.

The Council would also like to recognize and introduce you to the Council's newest members and the first group of members elected by Baylor staff: Betty Bradford, Donna Davis, Paulette Edwards, De De Henson, Sue Herring, Sandy Kocian, Sue Koehler, Debbie Magee, Judy Mills, and Melinda Oliver. Beginning after our meeting next month, these new members and the rest of the Council members will begin forwarding a short debrief that summarizes each of our Council meetings. The debriefs for September and October are attached to this message.

Staff Council is also participating this year in Baylor's "Steppin' Out" program on Saturday, November 10th. All staff are invited to join us for a few hours and give back to the community. For additional information about "Steppin' Out," please visit http://www.baylor.edu/student_activities/service/index.php?id=35445.

Finally, don't forget that today is the last day to purchase the spirit shirts, jackets, and vests from the Staff Council website, http://www.baylor.edu/Staff_Council/shirts.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any comments, questions, or concerns that you might have. I am particularly interested in any feedback you might have from the Fall Forum. I look forward to serving you this year as your Staff Council's Chair.

Sincerely,

John Lowe
