Guatemala: Nutrition Team

Location: Panajachel, Guatemala
Dates: May 18-26, 2012 (one week only!)
We will develop nutrition education materials before we go to deliver in
classrooms; we will evaluate nutrient content of typical meals and
evaluate food preparation while we are there; we will observe food in
the market and asses overall adequacy of foods available; we will learn
the Mayan influence on lives of those in the country side of Guatemala.
We also hope to help install the Mission Guatemalan stoves into people’s
houses. We arrive on a Saturday and travel to Panajachel. We receive
orientation that day to the village and the Mission Guatemala medical
clinic. Sunday is a day at the market and worship with a local church.
Monday –Friday we gather for breakfast, go out into the country side;
meet for lunch; visit a school or install stoves; meet for the evening
meal, and have the evening for reflection and personal time.
[Walter, Janelle M.] Our last Saturday is spent on Lake Attilan ,
visiting local craftsmen, exploring food offerings and bring closure to
the visit. The last Sunday we arise early, eat breakfast, pack up the
van and head back to the airport.
