Michael Bernstein, currently director of network services for the Killeen school district, has been named director of network services for Denton ISD. He replaces Greg Straughn, who resigned earlier this school year to move to Oklahoma.
Bernstein currently is responsible for managing and overseeing all operations and staff in the technology environment at Killeen ISD. He helped to attain more than $2 million in technology grants for that school district and facilitated the technology to open six new elementary and four new middle schools.
In Denton ISD, he will direct the network engineering group, technology services (all desktop hardware and software) and the help desk (customer service).
He has worked for Killeen ISD for the past 16 years. He started as a campus technology at Killeen High School in 1992 and was promoted to coordinator of Network Services in 2000. In 2004, he was named Director of Network Operations and also became responsible for the telecommunications department.
Bernstein also worked part-time at Temple College in Temple and owned and operated two jewelry stores in Temple and Copperas Cove.
He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and his master's degree in education from Baylor University. He has worked on his doctorate at the University of Texas at Austin.
