International Opportunities for Candidates Seeking Teacher Certification

International Education Opportunities
International experiences are provided to candidates in the School of Education in order to assist the candidates in the understanding of and participation in a global society. These experiences provide the candidate the opportunity to experience another culture through study, travel, and social contacts with professionals and students in another country. Programs vary from four weeks to a full year of study, depending upon the needs and interests of the students.

Intern Programs:
Brisbane, Australia: Candidates may spend part of their intern experience in the schools of Brisbane. During this time they will also visit Auckland, New Zealand, and have the opportunity to travel throughout Australia.

Kingston-upon-Thames, England: Candidates may spend part of their intern experience in the schools of Kingston-upon-Thames, a borough in the greater London area. In addition to experiencing the English schools, students are only fifteen minutes by train from central London where they may experience museums, concerts, art galleries, and historical sites.

These programs will occur the last two or three weeks of November and the first two weeks of December during the Fall Semester of the Intern Year.

Summer Study Program:

Costa Rica: While in Costa Rica for four weeks, students live with host families and spend four days a week at Saint Anthony School, a K-12, private, bilingual school. Students learn methods of teaching English as a Second Language using English content area materials. Field experiences and course seminars are based at the partner school with visits to urban public schools for observation and special projects. On weekends the group goes on excursions to explore Costa Rica. Weekend excursions include trips to Manuel Antonio National Park (Pacific Coast), Arenal Volcano and Hot Springs, Monteverde Cloud Forest, Poas Volcano, Tortuguero National Park (Caribbean Coast), and a coffee plantation tour. Whitewater rafting and Cloud Forest ziplining are part of the adventure. Service projects to two rural schools are an important part of the excursions.More Information
