Center for Community Learning and Enrichment Goals

To provide opportunities for preservice and graduate students at Baylor and other higher education institutions for action research, designing and implementing programs for exceptional students, and assessing their effectiveness. A priority area of emphasis is to include the development of laboratory opportunities at Baylor and in the field that highlight effective assessment and teaching practices.

2. To provide educational opportunities for exceptional students, their teachers, and their parents that are interdisciplinary in orientation and that test innovative approaches. Priority areas of emphases are the design of museum programs, the differentiation of curriculum in the general education classrooms, the development of programs incorporating creative problem solving strategies (K-12), and the development of parent services.

3. To collaborate with partners in piloting effective recruitment strategies, program frameworks, curriculums, teaching practices, staff development activities, mentoring models, and assessment procedures. Priority areas of emphasis will be the development of partnerships with school districts, arts and sciences departments, service centers, museums, businesses, the City of Waco, and community colleges to develop sites for clinical experiences and current programs such as the University for Young People, the Interdisciplinary Problem Solving Conference, and the Creative Problem Solving Camp.

Services for Exceptional Students (PK-12)

Programs Incorporating Creative Problem Solving. The creative problem solving model is often used to engage children and youth in solving global problems from an interdisciplinary perspective. One winter weekend is offered to middle and high school gifted students and their teachers. The University for Young People and the Problem Solving Camp operate during June for elementary through middle school students. The problems are interdisciplinary in nature and focus on current issues or those of interest to talented children and youth.image2300 (300w x 257h, 21 KB)










Services for Teachers and School Districts (PK-12)
  1. Curriculum Institutes incorporating Creative Problem Solving (K-12) . These institutes are offered during one weekend and during the summer. Teachers attend these institutes to learn about the design of curriculum units organized around issues and problems.
