Words of Wisdom from SOE Seniors
As Baylor teacher candidates prepare to graduate, they pass on words of wisdom to the School of Education (SOE) juniors, who are about to embark on the exciting adventure of being an SOE intern. The senior year in the SOE provides an exciting capstone experience, where students are full-time interns, teaching in a public school for the entire academic year and learning to lead a classroom. Here’s a wrap-up of what this year’s seniors shared on some important topics — from the power of coffee to the value of mentor teachers.
Diane Ravitch Baylor Lecture Rescheduled
Dr. Diane Ravitch, controversial former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education, will speak at Baylor University on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. in Waco Hall. Ravitch was originally scheduled to lecture at Baylor in January, but winter weather prevented her from traveling to Waco. Her appearance is part of the Academy for Leader Development Lecture Series and the School of Education Distinguished Lecture Series. The lecture will be free and open to the public, with no tickets or reservations required.
Action Research Symposium will be April 9
Senior interns in the Baylor School of Education’s (SOE) Teacher Education Program will showcase their research to Baylor faculty and to mentor teachers, principals and district administrators from local school districts at the SOE’s Action Research Symposium. The symposium will be held on Thursday, April 9, from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Lee Lockwood Library, 2801 West Waco Drive.
Four SOE Students Named to Who’s Who
Four Baylor School of Education (SOE) seniors were named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges: Ashlyn Cramer, Middle Grades English, Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) major; Audrey Elledge, Middle Grades English, Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) major; Amy Holecek, Elementary Education major; and Allie Smith, Secondary Mathematics major.
Baylor SOE Well Represented at NAPDS Conference
The Baylor School of Education was well represented at the recent conference for the National Association of Professional Development Schools (NAPDS) in Atlanta. Several Baylor SOE faculty members gave presentations, as did Baylor SOE students and representatives from the local Baylor Professional Development School (PDS) campuses.
