Philosophy of Teaching
Meeting the needs of today's Pre-K-12 children necessitates the development of more effective ways of teaching and the training of effective teachers. To do this, teacher educators must develop in their candidates, deep subject matter knowledge, knowledge of how children learn, general and content-specific pedagogical knowledge, and proficiency in assessing and monitoring pupil learning. In addition, teacher educators must cultivate in candidates a strong sense of professional identify and a commitment to the learning and development of all children.

Candidates must be given numerous opportunities to practice their skills in varied contexts in order to promote long-term knowledge retention. Prospective teachers must also question and reflect on their practices to insure that they are continually improving. In order to do this, it is necessary to demonstrate what it means to think like a teacher and utilize the pedagogy that candidates are expected to employ.
