Educators from “Down Under” Visit SOE
Australia-ThumbnailThe School of Education (SOE) hosted visitors from its partner school in Brisbane, Australia, last week. Deputy principal Pam Dunbar (back row, far left) and 4th-and-5th-grade teacher Debbie Heenan (front row, center) of Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School were in Texas for a week and met the eight SOE seniors who will travel to Australia in November through the SOE’s study-abroad program and teach there for three weeks.

SOE Senior Wins Statewide Scholarship
TASPA-Sasha-ThumbnailBaylor School of Education (SOE) senior Sasha Wells, who is majoring in all-level special education, is a recipient of the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators (TASPA) Scholarship for 2014. TASPA gives only three annual scholarships statewide, and this is the sixth year in a row (and the twelfth time since 1998) that a Baylor SOE student has received a scholarship.

Dr. Joel Porter Named Baylor Football Legend
Joel ThumbnailDr. Joel Porter, BA ’87, MSEd ’90, Director of Enrollment Management and Advising for the Baylor School of Education, will be honored by the Baylor “B” Association as the Football Legend at Baylor’s game against Northwestern State at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6. Porter was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Bears from 1984 through 1987, wearing #65. An excellent student in the classroom, he was named to the GTE Academic All-SWC team in 1987.

School of Education presents Baylor signs to three Midway ISD Professional Development Schools
Midway Signs-ThumbnailBaylor University School of Education celebrated its Midway ISD PDS (professional development school) campuses today by presenting specialty Baylor signage to its two new partner PDS campuses and to Midway High School, which has been a PDS for five years. The two new schools are Spring Valley Elementary and Midway Middle School.

Two SOE Teacher Candidates Honored as “Exemplary”
Quest4Quality-ThumbTwo recent graduates of the Baylor School of Education (SOE), Lynette Atkinson and Stephanie Limes, received recognition this summer from Quest for Quality as outstanding teacher candidates in the state of Texas. A collaboration between CREATE (Center for Research, Education and Advancement of Teacher Education) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Quest for Quality identifies exemplary teacher candidates and exceptional practices in university-based teacher-preparation programs in the state of Texas.
