Dr. Mar Magnusen Named Associate Editor of Sport Management Education Journal
Magnusen-THUMBDr. Mar Magnusen, assistant professor in the School of Education’s Department of Educational Administration, has been named associate editor of the Sport Management Education Journal. The academic journal is published by Human Kinetics and is the official educational journal of the North American Society for Sport Management. Magnusen has been on the journal’s editorial board since 2013, and in his new role will oversee the newly established “pedagogical innovations” section.

Baylor Civics Engagement Camp Offers Multi-faceted Learning
iEngage-pre-2015-THUMBMore than 120 fifth- through ninth-graders are learning about civics and providing a rich resource for Baylor faculty research during the annual Baylor University iEngage Summer Civics Institute. Running from Aug. 3-7, the camp is hosted by Baylor School of Education through a grant from the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation.

SOE Global Engagement Works Both Ways
Marcos-Wood-THUMBStudents from Baylor School of Education spend each spring break at the Santa Elena Elementary School in San Jose, Costa Rica, providing educational and other services. Such Baylor global engagements are designed to engage Baylor students in worldwide service, but this one has had the reverse effect too — now students from Costa Rica are interested in Baylor.

Baptist Standard Covers SOE's Project Promise Research
BaptSt-ProjProm-THUMB"The School of Education is making an impact on lower-income gifted and talented students through the Project Promise summer program," wrote the Baptist Standard in a story published July 3. Project Promise is a grant-funded component of the SOE's University for Young People program for gifted students. SOE faculty and a graduate students conducted a survey of former participants. School of Education Welcomes Dr. Michael McLendon as Dean
McLendon-ThumbnailDr. Michael McLendon joined the School of Education as dean on July 1. A Baylor political science graduate, McLendon has frequently been named as one of the nation’s leading university-based academics whose research contributes most substantially to public debates around education in the United States. He most recently held academic leadership posts at Southern Methodist University's Simmons School of Education and Human Development and Vanderbilt University's Peabody College of Education and Human Development.
