Three Memorable Teachers Honored by Baylor School of Education

MemTeachers-THUMBBaylor School of Education honored three teachers April 13 on the Baylor campus. Each year, the Baylor SOE recognizes memorable teachers or mentors as part of its annual Senior Recognition Banquet. Memorable educators are nominated by the Baylor students, who submit an essay to support their nomination, and then chosen by a Baylor faculty committee. Teachers honored were Becky Griffith of Nacogdoches, Jerry Sutterfield of Dallas, and Christy Walker of Crawford (pictured).

Six Seniors Honored with SOE Awards at Annual Banquet

2015-SrAwards-THUMBThe 30th Annual School of Education (SOE) Senior Recognition Banquet honored outstanding seniors within the SOE and its departmental programs. Seniors were recognized for their excellence in academic and fieldwork in education programs and their readiness to impact the world. Of the 128 seniors graduating, six were honored at the banquet. SOE Hosts Retirement Reception for Dean Jon Engelhardt

Engelhardt Rec-ThumbThe Baylor School of Education (SOE) and the Baylor Provost’s Office hosted a great crowd at the retirement reception for SOE Dean Dr. Jon Engelhardt on April 28. Engelhardt has been dean since 2007 and will retire at the end of June. The event was in the Great Hall of Truett Seminary on the Baylor campus. Words of Wisdom from SOE Seniors

Wisdom-ThumbAs Baylor teacher candidates prepare to graduate, they pass on words of wisdom to the School of Education (SOE) juniors, who are about to embark on the exciting adventure of being an SOE intern. The senior year in the SOE provides an exciting capstone experience, where students are full-time interns, teaching in a public school for the entire academic year and learning to lead a classroom. Here’s a wrap-up of what this year’s seniors shared on some important topics — from the power of coffee to the value of mentor teachers.

Diane Ravitch Baylor Lecture Rescheduled

Diane Ravitch ThumbDr. Diane Ravitch, controversial former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education, will speak at Baylor University on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. in Waco Hall. Ravitch was originally scheduled to lecture at Baylor in January, but winter weather prevented her from traveling to Waco. Her appearance is part of the Academy for Leader Development Lecture Series and the School of Education Distinguished Lecture Series. The lecture will be free and open to the public, with no tickets or reservations required.
