SOE Mourns Passing of Associate Professor Dr. John Park
The Baylor School of Education is mourning the passing of Dr. John Park, Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, where he had developed the middle school and secondary science program. At this difficult time, please remember the family of Dr. Park, a great teacher, colleague and friend. Services were held Monday, June 29, in Waco.
High School Students in PACE Visit Baylor and SOE
In June, Baylor SOE helped welcome to campus the Promoting Achievement in Communities Everywhere (PACE) program, a nonprofit organization that serves upperclassmen high school students. Students visited Baylor as part of an annual two-week summer trip to explore different colleges. Dr. Lakia Scott, assistant professor in the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum & Instruction, has led this summer trip since 2011, when she got involved with PACE.
Dr. Jon Engelhardt Retires from SOE Deanship
Dr. Jon Engelhardt, dean of the Baylor School of Education since July 2007, is retiring at the end of June 2015. Prior to the Baylor deanship, Engelhardt served for 20 years as an education dean at the University of Texas El Paso, Northern Arizona University, and Wichita State University. He also served as a faculty member in mathematics education and administrator at Arizona State University for 16 years.
SOE’s Dr. Rishi Sriram Appointed to Editorial Board
Dr. Rishi Sriram, graduate program director in the Department of Educational Administration in the Baylor School of Education, has been selected as a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of College Student Development (JCSD). JCSD is a higher-education student affairs journal published and founded by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).
SOE Master’s Students Raise Funds for Water Play Center
Baylor School of Education master’s students in the Sport Management finance class have been working to raise $10,000 to build a water play center at the Piper Center for Family Studies and Child Development. “The garden feature provides opportunities for the children to learn about nature, ecology, and God’s call for us to be good stewards of his creation," said SOE assistant professor in the sport management graduate program.
