New EdD in K-12 Educational Leadership Launched
JohnWilson-ThumbBaylor University School of Education (SOE) is launching a new Doctor of Education (EdD) Degree in K-12 Educational Leadership, expecting to enroll students as early as June of 2015. “The curriculum in the Baylor program is designed for practitioners wanting to learn skills that will help them address the complex problems of practice in K-12 schools and districts,” said Dr. John E. Wilson, program director and clinical professor in the Department of Educational Administration, which will house the degree.

DSD-Feb15-ThumbThe Baylor School of Education (SOE) hosted a great group of potential undergraduate students for Distinguished Scholars Day (DSD) on Feb. 6. Their time in the SOE included simulated class lessons from faculty in each curriculum area—math, ELAR (English, language arts, reading), science, and social studies. The SOE hosted two DSD events this year, inviting high-achievement high school seniors who have already been accepted to Baylor. Click to see photos from the event.

Two Baylor SOE Faculty Members Selected for ATE Fellows Program
HowellCassidyThumbTwo Baylor School of Education faculty members — Dr. Leanne Howell, Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor
 of Curriculum & Instruction, and Dr. Barbara Purdum-Cassidy, Clinical Assistant Professor in Curriculum & Instruction — are preparing for the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) Clinical Fellows Symposium that begins on Saturday, Feb. 14, in Phoenix, Arizona. Being chosen as ATE Clinical Fellows is quite an honor, since only 40 educators are selected nationwide, and this year Baylor has two representatives.

SOE Grad Dr. Michael McFarland is Texas Superintendent of the Year
McFarland Super ThumbnailBaylor School of Education graduate Dr. Michael McFarland (EdD ’05) superintendent of Lancaster ISD, is the Texas Superintendent of the Year, chosen by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). As such, he will be honored by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) at the annual convention later this month in San Diego.
