Agency Mission/Services:
The mission of Sears Methodist Retirement System, Inc. is to provide leadership in response to the needs of our aging population. We believe we have the responsibility for studying, analyzing, planning, developing, and implementing quality services to the aging where appropriate needs are found for health care and residential living arrangements in a Christian environment. Wesley Woods is a 120-bed certified and specialized facility. We provide skilled nursing care to older adults with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or other related dementias. Services include activities and life enrichment through community volunteer groups and social services. The facility also provides numerous health care services from physicians and therapists to other licensed professionals that we contract for other health-related services. We have 49 licensed Medicaid beds for residents.

Opportunities:
Baccalaureate: A BSW intern will have the experience of leading groups, attending care plan meetings, having a caseload of 10-15 residents, meeting with residents 1:1, interaction with the Alzheimer's Association, completing pyschosocial assessments and practicing the Mini Mental Status Exam. BSW interns will also be able to assist in a therapeutic way with some activities. It is expected that a BSW intern will be able to interact and communicate regularly with the social worker at the facility.

MSW Foundation: A MSW Foundation intern will have the experience of leading groups, observing and leading care plan meetings, having a caseload of 10-15 residents, meeting with residents 1:1, co-facilitate Family Support Groups and in-services, working on discharge plans on occasion, interaction with the Alzheimer's Association, completing psychosocial assessments and practicing the Mini Mental Status Exam. MSW interns will also be able to assist in a therapeutic way with some activities. It is expected that an MSW Foundation intern will be able to interact and communicate regularly with the social worker at the facility.

MSW Concentration: A MSW (Advanced Practice) intern will have the experience of leading groups, leading care plan meetings, having a caseload of 10-15 residents, meeting with residents 1:1, facilitating Family Support Group, leading in-services, working on discharge plans on occasion, completing pyschosocial assessments and administering Mini Mental Status Exam. MSW (AP) interns will also be able to assist in a therapeutic way with some activities. It is expected that an MSW (AP) intern will be able to interact and communicate regularly with the social worker at the facility. Also provide research for the facility and work with the Alzheimer's Association.

Desired Qualification:
Prospective interns must be able to interact with residents on a professional level, and be willing to learn and work with older adults through exemplifying a positive attitude and energy. No prior experience in a nursing facility is required. It is recommended that the interested person have a desire to work with older adults.

Agency Hours:
Monday-Sunday 24/7; Business Hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Training Required:
There will be a required training that includes 4 hours of educational videos on the topic of Alzheimer's dementia, as well as other appropriate videos. Other training materials given through orientation include information on communication, abuse and neglect, company policies and safety.
