Agency Mission/Services:
The mission of Wesley Woods is to provide leadership in response to the needs of our aging population. We believe we have the responsibility for studying, analyzing, planning, developing, and implementing quality services to the aging where appropriate needs are found for health care and residential living arrangements. Wesley Woods is a 120-bed Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) that contains 4 separate units, each corresponding with the level of need. 3 of the 4 units are locked and solely for residents that have a diagnosis of Dementia or Alzheimer's Disease. The remaining unit is for residents who need short-term acute therapy and will be returning to the community to live. It is one of the premier facilities in Waco.

Opportunities:
Baccalaureate: A BSW intern will have the experience of: leading groups, attending care plan meetings, meeting with residents 1:1, interacting with the Alzheimer's Association and Walk to End Alzheimer's Planning Committee, completing pyschosocial assessments and practicing the Mini Mental Status Exam. BSW interns will also be able to assist in a therapeutic way with some activities. It is expected that a BSW intern will be able to interact and communicate regularly with the social worker at the facility.

MSW Foundation: A MSW Foundation intern will have the experience of: leading groups, observing and leading care plan meetings, meeting with residents 1:1, co-facilitate Family Support Groups and in-services, working on discharge plans on occasion, interacting with the Alzheimer's Association, completing psychosocial assessments (5-10/week) and practicing the Mini Mental Status Exam. MSW interns will also be able to assist in a therapeutic way with some activities. It is expected that an MSW Foundation intern will be able to interact and communicate regularly with the social worker at the facility.

MSW Concentration: A MSW Advanced Practice intern will have the experience of: leading groups, observing and leading care plan meetings, meeting with residents 1:1, co-facilitating Family Support Group and in-services, working on discharge planning weekly, interacting with the Alzheimer's Association, completing pyschosocial assessments (5-10/wk) and practicing the Mini Mental Status Exam. MSW (AP) interns will also be able to assist in a therapeutic way with some activities. It is expected that an MSW (AP) intern will be able to interact and communicate regularly with the social worker at the facility.

Desired Qualification:
Prospective interns must be able to interact with residents on a professional level, and be willing to learn and work with older adults through exemplifying a positive attitude and energy. No prior experience in a nursing facility is required. It is recommended that the interested person have a desire to work with older adults.

Agency Hours:
Monday-Sunday 24/7; Business Hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Training Required:
Intern will participate in general orientation that all staff are required to attend upon a starting a job at Wesley Woods. It is a 4-6 hour training process that happens at Wesley Woods, and counts toward the internship hours.
