Meals and Wheels' nourishes the bodies, minds, and spirits of older adults in the Heart of Texas through meals, transportation, activities, and volunteer support. Meals & Wheels has provided services for the elderly in Waco and surrounding communities since 1967. In actively seeking to meet the needs of older residents, Meals & Wheels operates three primary programs. One of these is the Meals On Wheels program, serving homebound elders. The second service is the Senior Center program serves the McLennan County Medicaid clients in collaboration with Waco Transit. We serve Falls, Hill, and McLennan Counties.

Baccalaureate/MSW Foundation: Will have the experience of coordinating the delivery of meals in a rural setting, assessing clients in their homes, link clients to other community resources, attend case management meetings, interaction with McLennan County Hunger Coalition and Texas Hunger Initiative meetings, and practice administering the mini-nutritional assessments. The intern will be considered a staff member and will attend staff meetings, Board meetings as assigned, and will help with special projects related to fundraising activities of the agency.

MSW Concentration: Will engage in direct client assessment in home-centered setting, work directly on case management with a caseload of 10-15 clients, represent the agency with the McLennan County Hunger Coalition, work with the Texas Hunger Initiative on special issues related to hunger, administrating the mini-nutritional assessments, and train assessment staff in social work skills.

Desired Qualifications:
Interest in exploring the field of gerontology as a professional social worker, or to gain more knowledge of working with older adults, their needs, and connecting them to social services.

Agency Hours:
Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
