Common FAFSA Errors

Your FAFSA will not be processed if you make any of the common errors listed below. We cannot award financial aid to you until your error is corrected. Don’t delay financial aid; avoid these common FAFSA errors.

  1. Missing signatures
    • You (and your parent if dependent) did not sign the FAFSA
    • You (and your parent if dependent) did not re-sign the FAFSA when you made a change
  2. Citizenship could not be confirmed
    • You are a permanent resident who answered that you are a U.S. citizen and did not provide your alien registration number or it was an incorrect number
    • You are an eligible non-citizen but did not provide your alien registration number or it was an incorrect number
  3. Selective Service (SS) registration was not confirmed
    • You are a female but failed to answer the gender question resulting in your record being sent to SS for registration confirmation
    • You are a male who registered with the SS after you filed the FAFSA; therefore, you failed the SS registration confirmation
  4. Asset information is blank
    • Student's name does not match the name on their Social Security card
  5. Parent Social Security number is blank or incorrect
  6. Parent marital status and household size is missing
  7. Parent taxed and untaxed income information is missing
  8. Parent taxes paid is equal to or greater than their adjusted gross income (AGI)
