Affirming Baylor Success

Welcome! This e-mail newsletter will be sent to you intermittently during the next two years to keep the Baylor community abreast of the Reaffirmation of Accreditation process for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The final report from the SACS Commission on Colleges for Baylor is expected in December 2007.

You may or may not be familiar with the SACS review process, but we hope this newsletter will answer your questions, keep you current on developments and give you an opportunity to ask questions directly.

The SACS review is not the same process it was10 years ago, when Baylor was last asked to conduct a self-study. Much has changed, and it is important that faculty, staff, students and administrators understand these changes so we can respond effectively.

Larry Lyon, dean of Graduate Studies and senior vice provost, is leading the SACS review process at Baylor. Lyon also participated in the past two SACS reviews of the university and brings invaluable knowledge and experience. Tiffany Hogue, assistant provost, is coordinating the day-to-day requirements of this rigorous review. In addition, a SACS Reaffirmation Task Force and several SACS committees are hard at work on some of the most time-intensive reaffirmation criteria. There will be opportunities in the next two years for many more faculty and staff to become involved.

The new accreditation standards are a positive change in that they encourage us to reflect upon the connections between our daily work and the overall goals of Baylor University. The reaffirmation criteria are predicated upon a commitment to integrity and quality enhancement. Such principles resonate particularly well at Baylor, and we look forward to working together on this important project.
