Message to Parents of Baylor Students - 12:45 pm

Sept. 22, 2005

As Baylor University prepares to weather remnants of Hurricane Rita that are expected to pass through Central Texas this weekend, we want to assure parents that the University is taking every reasonable precaution to ensure that students who remain on campus are well cared for.

The University on Wednesday night communicated to students, faculty and staff that Friday classes and weekend events are being cancelled. This decision was made primarily to allow students who wished to travel home time to do so. We advised students to consult with their families about the best options for responding to the approaching storm based on their individual circumstances.

A special web site has been set up (www.baylor.edu/rita) by the University to post announcements and information about Baylor's preparations for, and response to, the storm. We are encouraging students, faculty, staff and parents to check this site frequently for the latest information.

We expect to be operating normally by Monday morning, but please check the web site for announcements should circumstances dictate a revised schedule.

If you have specific concerns or questions, please feel free to call the Baylor Parents League at 1-888-287-5557. Parents League staff members will be available throughout the day on Thursday and Friday to respond to your questions.
