Radiation Safety Training
Radiation Safety Training is offered to anyone interested in learning more about radiation fundamentals and safety practices.
Courses Available:
Radiation Safety Training - Certified Radiation Worker: This course leads to certification as a Radiation Worker at Baylor University. It is designed for Principle Investigators desiring to be an Authorized User of licensed radioactive material and for graduate students or others desiring to work under the direct supervision of an Authorized User. The course provides information needed for an individual to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control ionizing radiation. Topics include radiation fundamentals, ionizing radiation safety, regulatory requirements and commonly encountered radionuclides at Baylor University. Participants are required to pass a comprehensive examination to be considered for certification.
Radiation Safety Training - Short-Course: This course is designed for undergraduate students using exempt amounts of radioactive material and/or TAs assisting in the undergraduate laboratory. The course provides a broad overview of radiation fundamentals and ionizing radiation safety. Part of this course focuses on the specific isotope(s) used in a particular lab . . . Participants must pass a quiz to receive a temporary certification for use of specific isotopes.
Radiation Safety Seminar - General Information: This course is designed for those people working around exempt quantities of radioactive materials, radiation emitting machines and/or those that just want to learn more basics about radiation. The seminar provides a broad overview of radiation fundamentals and ionizing radiation safety.
