Computers/ITS

1. Who should I contact if the technology is not working in my classroom?
Unless otherwise directed by your Technology Director (check here to find your technology director), please call the Classroom Technology Services Hotline at 254-307-1614. The experts who answer your call will be ready to offer immediate assistance and will understand the urgency of your situation.You can also call the Help Line at 710-4357.

2. Who do I call if I'm having problems with my computer or other Baylor-owned technology?
Call the ITS Help Desk at x4357 (HELP).

3. What resources are available to help me with technology?
The ITS Help Desk line (710-4357) is answered during regular business hours, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. After hours you may find assistance through Self Service Help at: https://buselfservice.baylor.edu/selfservice/.

4. Will my faculty workstation be backed up automatically?
Yes, ITS provides regularly scheduled backups of all faculty & staff computers. The computer must be on and connected to the Baylor network when the backup is scheduled. For more information, visit http://www.baylor.edu/its/index.php?id=45995

5. What do I do if I need files restored from a backup?
Call the ITS Help Desk at x4357 (HELP).

6. Are my music files backed up?
Not by default. Applications, most multimedia files, and several other non-essential file types are excluded from backups. If you need to have large media files for your work at Baylor included in your backups, an exception may be requested by calling the ITS Help Desk at x4357 (HELP).

7. How do I set up my home computer to access Baylor email?
You may either choose to use Outlook web access or to configure your home computer for Outlook. Any information you may need regarding email can be found at http://www.baylor.edu/its/index.php?id=59109. For information regarding web access check out the links referring to web access or Outlook Web Access (OWA). To configure your home version of Outlook, look for documentation related to ROH (R Outlook Home). Baylor's Outlook Web Access (OWA) can be found at https://mail.baylor.edu.

8. I overwrote (deleted) an important file. Is there a backup copy?
In some cases that file may be restored; call the ITS Help Desk at x4357 (HELP).

9. How can I set up my mobile phone to access Baylor email?

10. What resources are available for web conferencing?
Baylor offers a few options for web conferencing, including Blackboard Collaborate, Big Blue Button, and Cisco Jabber. Contact your Academic Technology Director to identify the best resource for your needs.

11. What does Baylor offer in terms of web-based file storing and document sharing?
Baylor offers 5GB of storage for all faculty and staff on BearSpace. For more information on getting started in Bearspace, visit the BearSpace Quick Start Guide.

12. Are there any Baylor ITS resources available for me to use on my personal computer?
Baylor does provide limited resources for home computers. To see what is supported, visit: http://www.baylor.edu/its/index.php?id=44648.

13. Are personally-owned computers allowed on campus?
The University Technology Systems Usage Policy requires that all information related to University academic business be stored on Baylor-owned computers. Personally owned computers may not be connnected to the University's wired network. Personally owned computers may access AirBear, the wireless network, but certain functionality (like downloads of University software) is not allowed on AirBear.

14. How do I set up a personal web page?
Baylor University has partnered with CampusPress (also known as Edublogs) to provide two WordPress networks in support of personal and academic web sites for faculty, staff, and students. WordPress is a sophisticated, yet simple-to-use content management system (CMS) capable of providing simple personal pages for faculty to very elaborate, academically oriented project sites. Both networks rely on single-sign on (SSO) authentication to allow the use of Bear_ID (firstname_lastname) and password. Human Resources

1. Does Baylor have a directory?
Baylor's director for faculty, staff and students can be found online at: http://www.baylor.edu/directory/.

2. When do I get paid?
Faculty members are paid on the last working day of the month. Don't forget to request direct deposit. Contact LuAnn_Pickens@baylor.edu in payroll for more information.

3. What is my Bear ID?
Your Bear ID is your unique network ID and also is the name of your Baylor email account, with "@baylor.edu" appended. For more information about the BearID and other Baylor identification values, see http://www.baylor.edu/its/index.php?id=40040.

4. How is the number on my ID card different from my Bear ID?
The number on your ID card is the employee ID number associated with your records in Baylor's information systems (like the payroll system). You will need that number, along with your PIN, to access your information online through BearWeb.

5. What is Bearweb?
Bearweb is the online system that enables a Baylor employee to view or update personal information, including addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, emergency contact information, and marital status. You may also view the benefits information, leave history and balances, job information, leave history and balances, job information, pay stubs, and W-2 forms. Bearweb is also where faculty members can view who is in enrolled in your course(s) and where you will submit final grades. Bearweb uses your Baylor ID number and a PIN to log in, proceed to Bearweb.

Teaching and Related Matters

1. What are Baylor's holidays and are there any other days that classes are cancelled?

2. What are the policies that govern adding and dropping classes?

3. How do I get keys for my classrooms and/or media console?
Most classrooms do not require keys to access the technology once you’ve gained access to the room. Talk to your office manager about room access, and they will have keys to the media console if keys are required to use the technology.

4. How do I send materials to the Copy Center to be copied?
You may submit your materials to be copied online through the Copy Center website or email and attach your document(s)to the Copy Center. You will need to have the account number of the department that will oay for the copies.

5. How do I order books?
Access the bookstore home page from the Faculty/Staff page (left side navigation under Facilities and Campus Services. From the bookstore page you will need to link on eDoptions. This page will lead you through instructions to sign up as a user the first time, subsequently you will be asked to enter your log-on information.

7. What is a deficiency report and when is it due?

Deficiencies are reported on-line during the 8th week of the semester using the Deficiency Reporting System supported by the The Paul L. Foster Success Center. This is the same system that is used to make referrals to the Success Center. Only the instructor of record should access the deficiency reporting system as it requires the instructor's BearID and password. Instructions for accessing and completing the deficiency report can be found here.

11. How do I submit a change of grade?
If you need to change a grade after it has been submitted you will need to contact the Office of the Registrar at extension 1181.

12. How do I manage my grades?
Baylor offers two options for managing grades. Blackboard is used most frequently, and one of its features is the Grade Center. The other option is Micrograde, which you may download from Baylor's software application center.

There are several tools to create videos depending on your need, such as a video booth (http://www.baylor.edu/lib/techpoint/index.php?id=869399), online resources that allow you to create video content on your computer, and a few classrooms that have hardware to record your lecture.
